Location: Chiba lies east of Tokyo, and includes the lovely Boso Peninsula.
Look out for: If you use Narita International Airport, you have visited Chiba. Aside from the eponymous Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple, highlights include the long stretches of public beach at Kujikiri, and the Tokyo Disney Resort.
Food to try: While many associate Chiba with its high quality peanuts, the prefecture's fishermen bring in great catches for sushi, a local minced fish dish known as namerou, and a grilled fish cake known as sangayaki.
Tips: Chiba is home to Makuhari Messe, a lively and vital expo site, and Noda, known as 'Soy Sauce Central' and home to the Kikkoman Soy Sauce Museum.
